About the Albuquerque Housing AuthorityAlbuquerque Housing Authority (AHA) is one of New Mexico's premier housing authorities as well as the State's largest. AHA is a public entity that was formed in 1967 to provide federally subsidized housing and housing assistance to low-income families within the City of Albuquerque. With a $45+ million operating budget we provide economic benefits to our local economy, we create and sustain quality housing, and support the success of over 10,000 residents through Public Housing, Housing Choice Vouchers (Section 8), and mixed-finance development.
AHA is headed by an Executive Director, is governed by a five-person board of commissioners, and has a diverse and dedicated team of approximately 78 employees. AHA currently owns and manages 26 multifamily and senior housing developments totaling over 1,000 units throughout the municipal limits of the City of Albuquerque and AHA's Section 8 division administers approximately 3,000 housing choice tenant-based and project-based vouchers. Additionally, AHA's Service Coordination team connects residents with partners, provides workshops and events, and manages a Family Self-Sufficiency program.
AHA is a dynamic and growing agency. Over the last 10 years, AHA has expanded business lines into affordable housing development and management. In 2018 AHA formed the AHA Housing Development Corporation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and instrumentality. Through that development entity AHA has completed the redevelopment and expansion of seven of its public housing sites using HUD's Rental Assistance Demonstration Program and the eighth one is under construction.
