While connector failure is a serious economic and safety issue, no single root cause has been identified. To address this issue, Sandia is acquiring large numbers of suspect connectors from a variety of sources for analysis. On any given day specific tasks may include: Visual inspection, documentation and selection of connector samples Laboratory characterization of electrical resistance, leakage current and resistive heating of select subsets of connectors, microscopic and/or X-ray tomography examination of select samples, FTIR, DSC, TGA or other benchtop chemical analysis of connector housings Creation and population of a searchable catalog or database that identifies each connector and associated metadata Assistance with Sandia¿s field...
