An employee in this class provides assistance to attorneys in researching questions of law, investigating facts and preparing various legal documents. Duties are performed under the supervision of an attorney. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES : : Research legal issues and questions of law for reference and use in court by attorneys. Research case law and prepares memoranda. Reviews case files to ensure legal sufficiency, a sound factual basis for evidence, and the availability of evidence in pending civil or criminal matters. Prepares subpoenas for attorney review. Prepares draft of discovery and other legal responses for attorneys to review. Drafts routine motion papers in civil and/or criminal matters, and, after review by an attorney, files papers with the court. Speaks with caseworkers from Department of Social Services and obtains paperwork related to the investigation. Enters notes into the department’s Court Alert case management system as to what...
