Basic/Required Contributions:
  • Associate or higher degree from an accredited tech school or college in electronics engineering technology, electrical engineering technology, computer engineering technology or communications technology. OR have 3-5 years prior field work experience relevant to job description or comparable work experience
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Effective Written and verbal communications skills necessary for customer and team interaction.
  • Knowledge of basic/electrical principles and demonstrated proficiency in basic math skills
  • Familiarity with basic computer operations and able to run common application programs such as Microsoft Office Products.
  • Ability to pass background screening to become NERCI-CIP compliant

Desired Qualifications:
  • Prior experience with electrical schematics, electrical troubleshooting and installations
  • Familiarity with watt-hour metering and associated equipment including installing, testing, troubleshooting and programming of meters.
  • Knowledge of Interchange Tie-Testing, Wholesale/Transmission metering and Plant Metering.
  • Knowledge of high-end metering installations including JemStar, ION, Q1000 and translate meters
  • Knowledge of Electric distributions systems, e.g. different services types and voltages
  • Knowledge and experience working with Mobile Work Management Systems (SS9) application as well as other Duke applications such as Maplink, CBIS, Powertrack, etc..
  • Prior experience with telecommunications devices (i.e. Wireless, Cellular, RS 232/474, ethernet)
  • Prior experience with communication protocols (ie DNP, MODBUS, etc.)
  • Demonstrated problem solving and general troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge of service area within reporting location.

Working Conditions:
  • Safety is imperative
  • Work environment is normally outside in varying weather conditions
  • Driving is required on a daily basis and occasional overnight stays
  • Daily work received and completed via mobile laptops in trucks
  • Squatting, lifting and carrying up to 60 pounds is required to handle testing equipment and materials
  • Construction sites and congested areas
  • occasional work at elevated heights from a ladder, platform or bucket
  • Most work performed around energized electrical apparatus
  • Frequent customer contact often involving conflict resolution
  • Subject to call out, extension of day, and weekend work for scheduled projects or emergency restoration work
  • Performance is monitored and evaluated through remote technologies and audits with limited direct supervision
