## Role Overview We are seeking a results-driven and detail-oriented
Scalehouse Supervisor / Livestock Procurement Trainee to join a premier, global leader in the food production and agriculture industry at their Columbus Junction, IA facility. This position serves as an accelerated foundational program tailored for professionals aspiring to build a career in livestock procurement.
In this role, you will initially operate within the livestock receiving division, managing operational documentation, animal tracking, and delivery logistics, while actively training under seasoned procurement specialists to transition into a permanent procurement role.
## Core Responsibilities - Livestock Operations Management: Oversee the sorting, counting, weighing, tattooing, structural identification, and precise penning of livestock according to company quality and segregation protocols.
- Logistics & Delivery Scheduling: Master and manage complex livestock delivery schedules to ensure an optimal and continuous workflow at the regional production plant.
- Procurement Training & Relief Support: Undergo comprehensive operational training with field procurement experts, developing the skills to provide strategic vacation and coverage relief across field locations.
- Analytical Learning Programs: Master specialized corporate procurement tracking programs, gaining complete proficiency in carcass merit analysis, harvest data processing, weight optimization structures, and compliance buying regulations.
## Minimum Requirements - Education: Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Agriculture, Animal Science, Agribusiness, or an equivalent baseline of dedicated livestock production experience.
- Professional Experience: Practical exposure or a strong background working directly within livestock operations/handling is highly preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in basic computer systems, data entry tracking, and administrative office tools.
- Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with local production teams, external producers, and logistics networks.
## Work Environment & Physical Demands - Operations are primary conducted within the active livestock receiving alleys at the local processing plant, expanding into diverse field and market locations during advanced training cycles.
- Requirements include strict, non-negotiable adherence to standard operating safety procedures (SOPs), USDA regulatory compliance directives, and stringent animal welfare guidelines.
