Our analytics community has hundreds of analytics professionals across Ally in communities focused on business analytics, data science, R, Python, Power BI and more and continues to grow every day. As you read this, our Technology and Digital organization is deploying our new Cloud Computing platform to accelerate and expand our digital capability.

We're looking for a highly skilled Principal Data Scientist with technical expertise and GenAI knowledge for our Auto Consumer Strategy & Analytics group. This candidate will report to the Data Science Director, with responsibilities of supporting initiatives across GenAI/LLM solutioning, model development & governance, vendor selection, and emerging generative AI innovations. This candidate will also partner with business stakeholders, technology teams, and risk partners to deliver high-quality GenAI solutions and tools, and ensure responsible, effective deployment of AI solutions. Successful candidates should have hands-on experience with data and modeling, while demonstrating strong communication skills and the ability to influence a complex organization.

The Work Itself

In this role, you will lead the development and deployment of cutting-edge generative AI/agent solutions that drive business transformation. You will design and implement advanced GenAI tools utilizing experimentation, multi-modal data, and the latest AI techniques to solve complex problems and unlock new opportunities. As a technical expert and innovator, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and partner with external GenAI vendors/providers to ensure our AI systems are robust, responsible, and deliver measurable impact. You will also lead the architectural design and development of state-of-the-art machine learning, generative AI, and agent systems that enhance user experience, drive revenue, and ensure operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop/Implement/Test AI solutions for the Consumer Auto organization, including supporting vendor-developed Agentic AI models and its governance
  • Leverage novel approaches to continuously improve model performance and business outcomes
  • Advance responsible AI practices by integrating governance, ethical considerations, and security into every stage of model development and deployment
  • Develop and maintain trustworthy benchmarks and operational performance monitoring for predictive models and GenAI and agentic systems
  • Identify and champion new business opportunities by proposing and delivering innovative AI-driven solutions that create tangible value and competitive advantage.

The Skills You Bring

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Quantitative/Technical Discipline (Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science/Analytics, Economics)
  • Minimum 5 years of data science / quantitative modeling work experience, with hands-on experience working with large datasets (including text); practical experience with deploying LLMs highly preferred

Preferred Qualifications
  • Proven experience designing and implementing predictive models, Generative AI, and agentic systems, with a track record of developing novel AI approaches to boost model performance
  • Strong foundational knowledge of responsible AI practices, including the integration of data governance, ethical AI considerations, and security protocols throughout the model-development lifecycles
  • Experiences of partnering with GenAI vendors and external technology team to deliver GenAI solutions
  • Master's degree or higher in a quantitative field
  • Deep expertise in statistics and exploratory data analysis (EDA), paired with the ability to establish trustworthy benchmarks and operational performance monitoring for deployed models
  • Strong knowledge in programming languages of Python, SQL
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively present data analytics results to internal and external stakeholders
  • Highly self-motivated and adaptable, with a proven ability to deliver high-quality results in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment

Base Pay Range : $110000 - $180000 USD

An individual's position in the range is determined by the specific role, the scope and responsibilities of the role, work experience, education, certification(s), training, and additional qualifications. We review internal pay, the competitive market, and business environment prior to extending an offer.

Incentive Compensation: This position is eligible to participate in our annual incentive plan.
