Position Summary:

The Associate Energy Meteorologist will have multiple weather-related roles as necessary by system circumstances that impact system load and reliability requirements. The primary responsibilities for this role are performing weather forecasting, short-term load forecasting and power systems forecasting for use in unit commitment and dispatch planning, and storm support, and summarizing forecasts to various teams on routine basis. Additional enterprise weather support will occur outside of these major roles, in areas such as climate/climate change, fulfilling data requests and performing data analysis, and conducting nuclear generation data monitoring and modelling support. The position is also responsible for interacting with various functions across the company and all levels of management.

Weather forecasting involves using all available sources to independently develop accurate and timely weather forecasts, with a particular emphasis on conditions that pose a risk to our operational activities. This role will develop and monitor weather forecasts, analyzing various weather models to provide operational weather data and reports that support operational decision-making during all weather conditions. Weather forecasts are utilized enterprise-wide for daily operations and planning.

Short-term load forecasting involves monitoring and evaluating short-term load forecast model performance from both internal and external sources, using meteorological expertise regarding weather impacts on load, performing similar-day weather and load analysis, and publishing hourly load forecasts for each jurisdiction. Load forecasts are utilized for system optimization, including economic dispatch of generation and power trading.

Renewable Energy forecasting involves the estimating renewable generation to include in the unit commitment plan to ensure proper setup for managing the system in a cost effective and reliable manner. The renewable energy forecaster will forecast, track, and evaluate renewable energy resources, enroll new variable energy resources, and analyze weather models, historical data, trends, and external factors impacting the forecast. This role also provides expertise to continually improve renewable resource forecasting through data and modeling enhancements.

Major storm / High-Impact Weather support involves 24/7 availability to support emergency preparedness operations during high-impact weather events. In this role, the individual will monitor and report out real-time and forecast weather conditions on a recurring basis to various stakeholders across the enterprise, as well as support pre-storm outage prediction modelling of outages and restoration resource requirements.

The Associate Energy Meteorologist will perform daily tasks on weekdays plus provide weekend and holiday support on a rotating basis.
