Job Description:

The Program Aide performs a variety of duties to assist in the coordination of the Academic Support Network’s (ASN) subject area tutoring center at the Tempe campus. This position works collaboratively with a cross-campus workgroup and campus-specific team to assist with supervision of the tutoring center at the designated campus, including hiring, training, and evaluating student employees. This position is primarily focused on assisting with the supervision of student staff and managing the day-to-day operations of the assigned center. This role is also responsible for assisting in the deployment of ASN’s Online Study Hub (OSH) academic support model. The Program Aide will work with assigned staff to provide support for the adoption of ASN’s OSH model. As a supervisor of student staff, the Program Aide will participate in Work+ training and mentor ASN’s student staff (also called working learners). This position will be under the direct supervision of the Subject Area Coordinator Sr. 

This position will primarily be responsible for working during the W. P. Carey Tutoring Center's open hours of operation, which are during the day, for example, 11 am to 5 pm M-Th; 11 am to 3 pm F. There are times when this position will need to shift their schedules in order to work in the evening and some weekends. Specific hours are based on program needs. This position is for 30 hours per week. 

Essential Duties:

  • Assist with recruitment, hiring, selection, training, scheduling, and evaluation of student employees.

  • Work in a shared supervision model to assist with the supervision and management of ASN’s Tutoring Centers 

    • Training new and current student staff

    • Creating and managing student staff schedules

    • Evaluating student staff performance and providing feedback 

    • Helping to resolve issues amongst student staff and/or users

    • Assisting with the scheduling and presentation of student employee training, meetings, and workshops

    • Support University College’s Work+ by engaging in all aspects of the designed program, including, but not limited to, mentorship, reflective practices, professional development, evaluation of working learners, and use of digital portfolios

  • Help student staff develop materials for ASN’s OSH academic support model

  • Ensure the success of ASN’s OSH academic support model by monitoring student staff participation, providing ongoing feedback, and marketing resources to the ASU community

  • Assist with marketing events to promote services

  • Respond to faculty, staff, and student questions and concerns

  • Assist with maintaining program data  

  • Assist with creating, organizing, and maintaining administrative documents

  • Assist with maintaining Google Sites, Canvas sites, and social media as needed

  • Serve on various ASN Committees as needed

  • Represent ASN at events 

  • Respond to student questions and concerns

  • Other duties as assigned

Desired Qualifications:

  • Evidence of effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Experience as a tutor, writing tutor, SI Leader, desk aide, or prior experience working in a learning center

  • Experience working for ASN preferred

  • Supervisory experience

  • Experience using technology such as Canvas, Zoom, Slack, TracCloud, A.I., Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and/or other web applications  

Working Environment:

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting, subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse, which requires standing for varying lengths of time and walking moderate distances to perform work. 

  • Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 25 pounds. 

  • Regular activities require the ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to the resolution of conflicts. 

  • Ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see, and hear to perform essential functions.

  • Some evenings and occasional weekends may be required based on the needs of the unit.
