What Your Job Will Be LikeSandia National Laboratories is currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced Science and Engineering Program Manager to join our dynamic product realization teams within the Inertial Systems and Flight Systems & Avionics Departments. These multidisciplinary teams are dedicated to advancing technology in the field of inertial sensor subsystems and avionics for a variety of defense applications. The teams work on a diverse portfolio of programs, including the longstanding W87 JTA surveillance mission, hypersonic target development, and post-flight data analysis.
As a Science and Engineering Program Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing engineering projects from component conception through development and eventually to production. Your primary goal will be to ensure that projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget. You will play a critical role in collaborating with cross-functional teams, managing resources, and effectively communicating with stakeholders to drive project success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the W87 High Accuracy Separation Package (HASP) and Advanced Targets (AT) avionics portfolios, ensuring alignment with project goals and timelines.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical, mechanical engineers, technologists, and data analytics specialists, to facilitate project success and innovation.
- Participate in weekly technical meetings, providing insights, guidance and strategies for prioritizing engineering development and environmental testing.
- Manage project requirements and prepare results for programmatic reviews, ensuring presentations are clear and professional for stakeholders, including MDA, NNSA, AF and W87 Systems Engineering teams.
- Maintain and update project roadmaps, ensuring alignment with team objectives and timelines while managing and meeting project requirements.
- Assist the team in navigating complexities and challenges, fostering an environment of open communication and collaboration.
- Guide and mentor team members, encouraging innovative thinking and exploration of alternative solutions while maintaining project focus.
- Remain agile in revising plans as needed, working closely with the PRT lead and technical staff to adapt to changing project dynamics.
- Facilitate discussions that allow engineers to explore various avenues while ensuring the team remains aligned with project objectives.
- Lead root cause corrective actions and facilitate reviews to ensure product quality and reliability
- Develop priority planning for design validation testing and contingency planning with limited resources
- Guide stakeholders on how to utilize underspent funding strategically per HASP or ECUBE component need
- Engage with external vendors as needed to address parts obsolescence recovery plans for test apparatus.
In this role, you will be instrumental in driving the success of engineering projects, leveraging your programmatic mindset to enhance team performance and project outcomes. Your ability to listen to technical issues and guide staff will be essential in fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
There are two positions available on this posting. One will be onsite in Albuquerque, NM. The second can be a remote worker located in any U.S. State or District of Columbia with periodic travel to Sandia NM for work onsite.
Salary Range$117,500 - $235,700
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require- Bachelor's degree in a STEM field and advanced degree preferred
- 5 or more years of technical experience in inertial sensor subsystems and avionics
- Proven experience in project management, preferably in engineering and technology development
- Familiarity with earned value management
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively under pressure
- Ability to organize workshops for failure analysis, production reviews, system architecting
- Experience with project management tools - P6 Primavera, Jira, Microsoft Project
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Active in mentoring and coaching emphasizing continuous improvement
- Familiarity with formal government agency replan exercises
Qualifications We Desire- Strong understanding of inertial systems and electronic technologies is highly desirable.

About Our TeamSandia's Departments 5325 Flight Systems and Avionics and 5326 - Inertial Systems, are dedicated to developing and delivering cutting-edge sensor and subsystems for missile systems, air-delivered applications, and ground navigation. Our work involves advancing current design initiatives and creating prototype and surrogate items, all of which undergo rigorous testing and characterization in thermal, vibration, shock, various motion, electromagnetic, and radiation environments. The organization excels in engineering development for the interface, testing, and evaluation of inertial sensors, ensuring their integration into complex electronic and mechanical systems. Our team possesses a diverse range of skills, including expertise in electronics engineering, software design, mechanical modeling and design, and electro-mechanical fabrication. Our product development process encompasses conceptualization, requirements gathering, modeling, detailed design, fabrication, system integration, testing, and data analysis, all aimed at delivering reliable solutions to our various customers.
