Who will you be working with?

Precision Turbo and Engine (a Wabtec Company) is one of the world's foremost manufacturers of high performance, aftermarket turbochargers. In addition to a line of high-performance turbochargers, we also manufacture wastegates, heat exchangers, and ancillary products in our Crown Point, IN facility. We are proud to supply a very diverse customer base from hypercar manufacturers to military race teams to individual hobbyists.

How will you make a difference?

As a member of the Components Division, the Design & Development Engineer plays a hybrid role, combining hands-on design work with broader product development responsibilities. They will work as part of a collaborative team responsible for designing, developing, validating, and releasing turbochargers, turbocharger components, boost control products, and related system components. Strong communication skills are essential for working closely with plant personnel and ensuring products meet all technical, performance, and quality requirements.

What will your typical day look like?

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Design and propose new products based on customer requirements and market demand
  • Perform engineering analysis using FEA and CFD tools
  • Release finalized designs to manufacturing
  • Represent products in vendor and/or customer contacts
  • Stay informed on new technology and competitive products
  • Implement engineering changes to existing products and documentation.
  • Collaborate with purchasing and suppliers to ensure highest level of quality on finished goods
  • Review product specifications to ensure clarity, completeness, form, fit, function, and conformity to standards and procedures.
  • Identify design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommend revisions, engineering change orders, and improvements to engineering management or the project team.
  • Work with machine shop leadership and quality lab personnel to ensure all questions are answered correctly and all specifications are met.
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands:
  • Employee is regularly required to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time
  • Employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • Employee is regularly required to wear safety glasses in the production environment
  • Requires daily face-to-face interaction with employees in an office and production environment.

Work Environment:

The employee will primarily work in a temperature-controlled office with a typical day requiring less than 10% of production environment interaction. During visits to areas of operations and field testing, they may be exposed to loud noise.

You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.

The salary range for this role is $68,900 - $98,200. The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands, and work location. Qualifications

What do we want to know about you?

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 3-4 years of design and/or development engineering experience.
  • 1-2 years SolidWorks 3D design experience required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of design, development, manufacturing and assembly operations, engineering processes and procedures
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate, influence, and drive results.
  • Strategic and creative thinking to analyze issues that may arise and create solutions.
  • Proficient in FEA and CFD Ansys or similar
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

The salary rate for this role is currently $68900-98200 The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location.
