Position OverviewServes as the association's primary youth safeguarding officer, supporting Rotary's commitment to providing safe, enriching experiences for youths who participate in secretariat, member, and participant-led activities, events, programs, and projects. The position is responsible for supporting staff, volunteers, and participants with Rotary's commitment to youth safeguarding (proactively creating a culture of safety) and youth protection matters (reacting with transparency, compassion, and confidence when concerns arise).
Primary responsibilities include developing a community of practice for youth safeguarding, overseeing policies and the development of resources to proactively support youth safety and youth protection, assisting with responses to reports of youth protection concerns and guiding members to address concerns in a timely and responsible manner, providing guidance to other departments to help them uphold Rotary's commitment to youth safety and comply with Rotary's youth protection policies, and highlighting best practices when working with youth during events, activities, and across organization-wide initiatives.
Important to note: You will be required to interact with sensitive reports, including those involving allegations of inappropriate member conduct, including child sexual abuse.
You Will Have - Proven expertise in Youth Protection and Safeguarding
- Bachelor's degree required; graduate work in related fields preferred or equivalent relevant experience
- Training, certification, or education in crisis counseling, social work, and/or child abuse prevention required
- Minimum of five years' experience in youth safeguarding and youth protection programming.
- Ability to manage confidential issues with discretion and professionalism
- Ability to effectively communicate, facilitate learning and inspire others
- Excellence in verbal and written skills with a global, multicultural audience
- Experience in leading culture change and change management
- Study, work, or volunteer experience abroad, preferred
- Experience working with a global, multicultural audience

You Will Be Responsible ForStrategy - Collaborate on the development of global and regional strategies with Legal, Risk Management and Public Relations to ensure safety and protection for all youth participants in events, activities, programs, projects, and initiatives in a Rotary context.
- Implement a change management plan to prioritize awareness, understanding, and adherence to Rotary's Commitment to Youth Safety.
- Oversee Rotary's policies for youth safeguarding and youth protection.
Resource Development & Learning - Collaborate with Global People &Talent and Learning & Development teams to develop regional and organizational resources and communications to staff, volunteers and participants, to advance Rotary's youth protection and safeguarding strategy.
- Oversee the development of local and regional coaching resources and individuals by providing continuing education and relevant messaging and support.
- Oversee the development of global processes for youth safety and youth protection with a continued focus on process improvement.
- Develop evaluation tools that are appropriate for monitoring the effectiveness of youth abuse prevention support materials at the club, district and international levels.
- Oversee the education and guidance provided to other member-facing staff departments and organization-wide initiatives to ensure compliance with Rotary policy related to ensuring youth safety.
Monitoring & Evaluation - Develop and implement evaluation tools and long-range plans to monitor and review the effectiveness of Rotary's approach to youth safety in consultation with Rotary Senior Leaders and staff.
- Provide oversight of youth protection related investigations and their resolution of sensitive and confidential correspondence.
- Create a district evaluation model to review compliance with youth protection and certification requirements. Together with Culture & Values regional teams, conduct periodic evaluations of districts to verify compliance.
- Develop progress reports to monitor member and participant adherence to youth protection requirements.
- Partner with the Audit team to include all business constituents with processes and policies related to youth safeguarding and youth protection in regular business audits.
Volunteer & Other Support - Prepare board items on youth protection and ensure the implementation of related board and trustee policies.
- Travel to meetings/events to build relationships, facilitate learning, share resources, and guide members to resolve issues.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with other global organizations with a commitment to youth safeguarding and youth protection.
- Respond and manage escalated youth protection issues from the Culture & Values team.
- Maintain expertise and provide counsel to your team, other staff and senior leaders on policies and issues involving youth protection.
- Partner with Risk Management to secure and maintain sexual misconduct and molestation liability insurance coverage on an annual basis through adoption of industry best practices
