JOB SUMMARY & RESPONSIBILITIESThe Structural Engineer leads efficient and valuable construction projects with in depth-analysis, design, implementation, and specification of structural systems, platforms, foundations, and any other structural components utilized in heavy industrial facilities. Structural Engineers utilize their professional engineering license to perform work, complete assignments and oversee structural engineers early on in their career that are developing their knowledge and skills.
This role is part of a strategic hiring initiative to add over 20 new team members to support our growing organization. This is an on-site role located in Sioux Falls. Responsibilities include:
- In-depth analysis and design of complex steel, concrete, metal buildings, and masonry structures.
- Develop advanced structural design calculation sheets including how foundations will be dug, measurements, requirements, materials, project costs, labor and timescale.
- Collaborate and guide structural engineering designers and structural engineering drafters to create, modify, and evaluate steel, concrete, metal buildings, masonry, and other structural drawings and models.
- Perform on-site inspections to verify construction is performed according to drawings and specifications.
- Function as Engineer of Record for POET Design and Construction design-build construction projects as assigned.
- Prepare request for proposals (RFP's), write specifications and establish completion dates for engineering procurement services (EPC) and design-build materials.
- Collaborate with third party vendors and contractors on various construction projects, including bid packages, specifications, ordering materials and heavy equipment, and aiding in installation oversight.
- Utilize structural engineering drafting, design-build, and project management software; RISA 3D, Autodesk AutoCAD 2D, AutoCAD 3D, ARAS, Jira and MS Project.
- Review and award third party vendor contracts, review and approve vendor drawings, and work with project teams in defining and anticipating the project needs.
- Assist in new technology and product research and testing to improve processes.
- Provide on-going structural engineering guidance to support cross-functional teams towards successful initiatives.
- Foster a culture of safe behavior and environmental compliance at all times.
- Maintain a team environment at all times and champion POET in the community.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS- Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering with Structural emphasis, or equivalent engineering field, required.
- Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering [FE] exam.
- Professional Engineer [PE] is preferred.
- Experience requirements:
- Structural Engineer I: No experience required.
- Structural Engineer II: 4 or more years of overall experience with 3 or more years of experience in a related industry.
- Structural Engineer III: 8 or more years of overall experience with 6 or more years of experience in a related industry.
- Senior Structural Engineer: 12 or more years of overall experience with 10 or more years of experience in a related industry.
STRENGTHS OF A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE- Experience using structural engineering and project management software; RISA 3D [Rapid Interactive Structural Analysis], AutoCAD 2D, AutoCAD 3D, ARAS, Jira and MS Project.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills as well as the ability to adapt to change.
- You have the ability to understand technical and day to day operation of a bioprocessing facility.
- You know the basics of Microsoft Office Suite. You're capable of learning new programs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT - Up to 25% travel will be part of the norm for this position to visit the bioprocessing facilities, meetings and site visits. Most travel obligations will have you back home at night.
- In this role, you'll be asked to drive a POET vehicle. A motor vehicle record check will be conducted during the preemployment process and yearly thereafter.
- The work environment at POET is dynamic. You should expect a balance between time spent in the office and at the bioprocessing facility, which may include some physical labor helping your team members.
