From its humble beginnings as a 35-bed medical care center, Southwestern Vermont Health Care (SVHC) has grown into a full-blown health system serving more than 55,000 people in a three state (Vermont, New York, Massachusetts) area. The not-for-profit health system's flagship facility is Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, which has about 100 beds. The system also includes The SVHC Centers for Living and Rehabilitation, Northshire Medical Center, and Deerfield Valley Health Center, as well as home health and hospice operations. SVHC, which was established in 1918, provides health care services for residents of Bennington County and surrounding regions.
