About this Job: General Summary of Position Performs a variety of technical duties to assist with obstetric surgery and patient care in the Labor & Delivery areas. Must have completed an accredited surgical technology training program. Functions as a member of the patient-centered care team to provide direct patient care activities in the obstetrical services/maternal and newborn areas under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or a medical provider. Assists nursing and medical staff with performance of procedures and tests. Assists patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and performs care activities such as specimen collection phlebotomy intravenous (IV) insertion Foley Catheter care and documentation of observations in the health record. Incumbents in this position may perform all or a combination of the duties described depending upon the assigned work area and the specific needs of the patients and the department.
